Sharing Bee Blocks – the Bacon Connection

This is about DIY, &, Crafts.

I want to connect here more often, recently I have let other priorities and the ease of instagram get in the way of sharing my work on the blog and I hope to change that. So for a while I am going to share what I am working on now and also catch up here with things that I missed blogging about.

These are my blocks made for Debbie in Bee Sewcial for July. In this bee, the queen bee gives an inspiring prompt, as specific or general as she likes, and we make what we want. The only restriction is that the blocks are made with solids only, no prints. It is really the best bee ever and I am so glad to have started it with my friend Stephanie.

Debbie asked for bacon inspired blocks – I learned this spring that fancy places sometimes refer to bacon as pork belly, which is not my favourite image. Debbie shared an inspiring pinboard with us and suggested some possible colours.

This first block is a fairly obvious interpretation of bacon in the package. I wanted to include some skinny strips. It is 12.5″ on one side and longer on the other.

This is my sizzling bacon inspired block. Again 12.5″ on one side and longer on the other. Both blocks also include both cotton and cotton/linen blend fabrics.

Bacon Inspired Blocks

I have to say that I had a lot more fun than I expected thinking about and planning these bacon inspired blocks. It is unusual for me to be visually inspired by ready to cook/eat proteins – as opposed to vegetables or fruits or live animals – but clearly I was just not seeing the possibilities.

You can see where Debbie is going with this quilt in her post here. It is going to be an amazing quilt.

Best,

Leanne
