As some of you may or may not know, I did my undergrad at Arizona State University (ASU), so when we moved back to AZ, it was like taking a bit of a walk down memory lane for me. It’s not that often that I get back down to Tempe (where the main campus is located) except for athletics or seeing plays, but I love keeping up to date with what’s going on with my alma mater and revisiting some of my old favorite stomping grounds (and even finding new favorites). So when ASU contacted me and asked to partner up and share some of my local favorites, I was really excited.
A Quick Guide to Tempe
If you’re heading to Tempe soon, here are some of my favorite places to pop into.
Cartel Coffee Lab
I am a sucker for a good cup of coffee, as you guys know if you follow me on Instagram. Cartel Coffee Lab is one of my favorites (I have posted about their Scottsdale location here). It’s also a great spot to bring your computer and work remotely, which I have been known to do on an occasion or two.
Royal Coffee Bar
If you get the chance, I also recommend hitting up Royal Coffee Bar. They’re just south of the Sun Devil stadium in the heart of downtown Tempe.
Postino Wine Café
If you’re in Tempe on a weekend, definitely check out Postino for a really good brunch (try the “Ciabatta French Toast” if you’ve got a sweet tooth like me). Ben loves a classic breakfast so his go-to is usually the “Morning Staple,” which, let’s be honest, I usually end up eating half of anyway haha. They are also a great spot for lunch and / or happy hour.
Another super popular breakfast spot is Snooze (which happens to be right next door to Postino). They have pretty much everything you could ever want to eat for breakfast, but I usually go for their blueberry pancakes, cause I am a “plain Jane” like that.
Original Chopshop Co.
For lunch, I always love to meet Ben at Original Chopshop Co. right across from the main campus on University Ave. for a quick bite when he can get away from his desk. Their “Power Green” juice is my favorite and I also usually get their Teryaki Chicken Bowl (with extra avocado). It’s really good. Also, you can pop in here for just a smoothie or even breakfast (they open at 7am).
Casey Moore’s Oyster House
If you’re a fan of oysters you can pop into Casey Moore’s for happy hour, but I gotta be honest, I mostly just come here for the drinks haha. It’s a fun dive that has been forever memorialized in Jimmy Eat World’s “If You Don’t, Don’t.” And if you say you don’t know who Jimmy Eat World is then I don’t know if we can be friends haha. Just kidding, let’s be friends!
Anyway, if you’re a fellow alum, current student or just a Sun Devil fan, you should download the Sun Devil Rewards App! It’s a great way to stay connected to all things going on in and around ASU and in the Phoenix area.
I recently learned about the app but have been playing around on it a ton. It’s great for leaning about ASU and Phoenix news and events. What’s cool is that you can even redeem “Pitchfork” rewards points for exclusive prizes and experiences. And good news, download the app now and redeem 400 “pitchforks” by using my secret word LOVEALUM (offer expires on March 23rd)!
Let me know what you guys think of the app. I would love to hear your thoughts.
