We Heart Earth: Reduce

Follow the “five R’s” to a better Mother Earth…

In celebration of Earth Day, we will be introducing an “R step” each day this week through Friday… shining light on the ways we impact Earth, and how just a few small steps can minimize these effects and help you take a better stance in protecting her.

Today is all about how to — Reduce…your carbon footprint!

Fact: Air-drying clothes can reduce the average household’s carbon footprint by 2,400 pounds a year.

Tip: Opt out of using your electric dryer — use a clothesline instead!

A “carbon footprint” is the measure of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere via our daily activities. The simple act of breathing unfortunately produces even some sort of footprint, but by reducing, we can control how big that footprint becomes. Using a clothesline will not only reduce the need for energy derived from fossil fuels, but will also save you money and keep your clothes hanging around longer, literally. Can’t hang a clothesline? Opt for a clothes rack instead!
